Moving to a new property

Moving house can be an exciting, but daunting experience because there is so much to organise. We’ve put together a few top tips to help you get settled in as quickly and easily as possible:

Be Prepared
It’s a good idea to pack as much as you can in advance. Try to mark everything clearly in bags or boxes so that it’s easier to find what you need when you get to your new home – like the kettle and teabags! Friends and family may also be willing to lend a helping hand and help you with the packing and unpacking.

Meter readings
It is advisable that you take a note of all meter readings, water, gas and/or electricity, as you are leaving your old address so that your final bills are accurate. It’s also important to take a note of meter readings when you move into your new property so that you are billed correctly (from the date you move in)

What about furnishing and decorating?
Two Castles Housing Association does not usually provide furniture or carpets. However, if you are in receipt of benefits you may be entitled to a loan from the Department of Work and Pensions to help with furniture for your new home.

Anyone wishing to re-decorate their new home would normally have to fund this themselves. Again, in exceptional circumstances, new tenants may be offered redecoration allowances by the Association - we will let you know when you sign your tenancy agreement if the property you are moving to has a redecoration allowance.
